Rules and Policies

Students are expected to behave respectfully and courteously at all times toward EDC faculty and staff, as well as toward each other.

  1. No one may smoke, chew gum, or use bad language in or near the dance studio.

  2. Students must follow the dress code for all classes and rehearsals.

  3. Students must show respect for the property of others and for the facilities: help keep studio building and grounds clean and neat

  4. Students should put their belongings neatly in the places provided for them.

  5. Students under the age of 18 and without a parental permission slip may not leave the EDC studio without their parent/guardian in site.

  6. EDC is not responsible for any lost or stolen items, and EDC shall not be liable in any way for injuries sustained during attendance at the studio or any or its related functions.

  7. EDC is completely opposed to bullying and will not tolerate it. Any such action will be dealt with swiftly.

Attendance Policy

EDC keeps a record of attendance for each student in each class. If a student must miss class, notify the office in advance. Students needing to leave early or going to be out of town must bring a written note for their parent/guardian. Students must also be picked up within 15 minutes of the end of their class or rehearsal. Students should make outgoing calls only when necessary and should limit their calls to one minute. To speak with your child’s instructor, please call the EDC office to set a scheduled time.

Make-up Classes

In order to maintain consistent progression, any missed classes are to be made up within two weeks. No credit or refund is given for missed classes. Please see your child’s instructor on what an appropriate class for your child to make-up would be. If a student is going to be missing a class, please call the EDC studio office to let the instructor know.

If you need to substitute one class for another due to a scheduling conflict, you must discuss this with the school director. DO NOT ASSUME that you can just take a different class on a different day without the permission of the school director. Limitations placed on the student by a physician are respected but can be made up by observing their leveled class. The Artistic Director of ECBT may invite students at any level to perform when the students’ talents and desires and the need of the choreography call for it.

*Students who do not wish to take the required number of classes, but do want to train at a desired level, are not eligible to perform with the class level. Regular attendance is essential to proper training.

Company Dancers

To be eligible to perform at the Erie Contemporary Ballet Theatre Company level (Regional Dance America), all scheduled classes must be taken. If a missed class is not made up within two weeks, or arrangements have not been made with the school director, you will be placed into a lower level and not allowed to perform until you have made up the necessary classes. If you know that you are going to be missing classes ahead of time, you are free to take extra classes ahead of schedule. This policy ensures that all students placed in these levels will continue to progress at the same rate.
